This is a topic that I like to revisit frequently. Have you ever found yourself so caught up in checking items off your to-do list that you are more focused on what you still haven’t done than that huge list of items that you HAVE done?
I invite you to follow along with me on a little guided self-appreciation quest. Grab your to-do list or simply just think about it. Instead of looking at the items that you haven’t crossed off yet, take a moment to give yourself thanks and acknowledgement of all the items you have done. With each item, pause, thank yourself and give yourself some positive recognition for checking off that item. Just sit with those feelings for a bit and breathe.
How good does it feel to think about all that you HAVE done? Pretty good, right?
Now think back to the last few months. What big items have you accomplished?
What have you accomplished in the past year? Take a few minutes to really think about those things and all that you did to overcome challenges and make it through to the other side.
Now take a minute and think about when what you currently have was once a goal. It’s O.K. to write it down if you want. Give yourself time to appreciate these things that you worked so hard for.
How do you feel now? A little calmer, more confident, happier?
That to do list will always be there. Remember to take the time every now and then to appreciate yourself and your hard work that you’ve already done. Just sit with those feelings for awhile and thank yourself for all that you do.
